Born and raised in North Carolina, Christa Dutton now finds herself living and working in Washington, D.C. As a reporter at The Chronicle of Higher Education, she covers many facets of academe. Her favorite stories to write are deeply reported narratives that introduce readers to the people most affected by the politics and problems in higher ed.

Christa graduated from Wake Forest University in 2024 with a degree in English. In 2023, she served as Editor-in-Chief of the student newspaper, the Old Gold & Black.

As a student journalist, she earned 2nd place for human-interest story of the year from the Associated Collegiate Press, which grants the top prizes in collegiate media. The Associated Collegiate Press also named her a finalist for Reporter of the Year. She led the Old Gold & Black to three Associated Collegiate Press awards: 4th place for best website, 6th place for best magazine, and 8th place for best print newspaper. At Wake Forest, she earned the Bynum Shaw Prize in Journalism for outstanding work at a campus publication.

Christa has also interned at the Triad Business Journal, where she covered restaurants, retail, entertainment, and minority-owned businesses. She has also freelanced for WFDD, the Piedmont Triad’s NPR affiliate.
